Overview
MAMA Crossover is an adaptive trend-following strategy built around the MESA Adaptive Moving Average (MAMA).
Unlike a standard moving average crossover, it uses an adaptive average designed to respond to changing market conditions. This makes it suitable for traders who want a crossover model that can react faster when price behavior changes while remaining smoother than a simple fast moving average.
Signal Logic
The strategy monitors the crossover between the MAMA line and the FAMA line.
A buy signal appears when MAMA crosses above FAMA.
A sell signal appears when MAMA crosses below FAMA.
This creates a trend-following model based on the relationship between a more responsive adaptive average and its slower companion line, rather than on fixed-length moving averages.
MAMA
| Parameter | Description |
|---|---|
| Fast Limit | Defines how quickly MAMA is allowed to react when the market becomes more active. Higher = faster reaction, earlier signals. Lower = more restrained behavior. |
| Slow Limit | Defines how slowly MAMA can react when the market is quieter. Lower = smoother, slower adaptation. Higher = more responsive behavior even in calmer conditions. |
Common Features
Each strategy has its own signal logic, but installation, setup, and trade management are identical across the product line. Once you know how to use one, you know how to use the rest.
